Broad River Reel

The Broad River is located a few miles from my home in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Each time I cross the bridge that overlooks the Broad River Greenway, there is always something new and interesting to see. Depending on the latest rainfall, or period of drought, the color and depth of the water constantly varies. During steamy hot days in July and August, you often see dozens of young and old cooling off or fishing along the shore.

 

As the tune begins (Key of D; tuned DDAE), I wanted my bowing to reflect more of a Celtic style (fully realizing that I am not a Celtic fiddler). As the tune progresses, I wanted to incorporate more of the strong rhythmic bowing that is characteristic of North Carolina mountain fiddlers.
